Refracting Africa was founded by a first-generation American, the daughter of Tanzanian immigrants, who grew up in New York City and Pittsburgh. After a successful career in the actuarial field, her passion for travel and cultural exploration led her to establish this venture. Her frequent visits to East Africa to connect with family in Tanzania inspired her to create a platform where travelers can experience Africa beyond the typical “adventure travel” lens. She is dedicated bringing a personal touch and a different perspective to Africa and its diaspora through Refracting Africa group tours.
